Pedestrian hit by train in Hanford dies
A pedestrian hit by a freight train has died, Hanford police said Monday.
About 12:40 p.m. Monday, a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train hit the pedestrian, 38, as he was walking along the north-south tracks between Fifth and Sixth streets in Hanford.
Police found him unconscious and not breathing, and emergency medical technicians pronounced him dead.
A train crew member said the man was walking south on the east side of the tracks, south of Sixth Street. The crew member blew the horn but the man kept walking close to the tracks.
The crew acted to slow and stop the southbound train but he was hit on his side. His identity is being withheld until family can be notified.
BNSF police took over the investigation as the tracks are within its jurisdiction.
