Big rig bursts into flames, driver injured in south Fresno

The operator of a tractor-trailer rig managed to get out as it burst into flames Friday afternoon as he was driving near Jensen Avenue and Golden State Boulevard in south Fresno.

A Fresno Fire Department spokesman said the incident occurred about 2:30 p.m. The big rig crashed into a pickup in front of the Pick-n-Pull auto salvage yard – just east of several fast-food restaurants – as the driver jumped out of the vehicle to escape the flames.

The driver was taken to a hospital, but officials did not know the severity of his injuries.
