Two-time U.S. champion cyclist and Olympic medalist Levi Leipheimer was in Fresno Saturday to participate in a memorial ride for Fresno State art curator Ed Lund, who died on Oct. 3 after crashing during a ride in Sonoma County.

That ride was a charity organized by Leipheimer, who lives in Santa Rosa.

Rob Chepernich of Rubber Soul Bike Shop in Fresno said that Leipheimer, Rubber Soul owner Ben Medrano and an unknown number of other riders left Fresno around 8 a.m. They took the Powerhouse Loop, a commonly used 100-mile loop which runs from Fresno and up through Auberry and North Fork before swinging back to Fresno.

Chepernich said the group was expected back in town around 11 a.m.
