Bakersfield library closed because of bedbugs

The Bakersfield Californian

Kern County’s flagship library in downtown Bakersfield was closed Thursday after county environmental health staff found bedbugs in upholstered chairs there.

And Beale Memorial Library will stay closed Friday as efforts to clean up the mess continued.

Kern County Public Health Director Matt Constantine reported, in a press release, that a thorough search of Beale Memorial Library and all other Bakersfield area libraries was conducted. Only the Beale library was affected.

The bedbug infestation was confined to “a few” chairs in adult sections of Beale Library. The children’s area was not affected, Constantine reported in the statement.
