A northwest Fresno house was heavily damaged Saturday after a two-alarm fire started in the garage.

The fire broke out shortly before 6 p.m. at 3246 W. Alluvial Ave.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and found heavy smoke coming from the home. About 30 firefighters battled the fire.

Two adults live in the house but were not home when the fire started, said Fresno Fire Battalion Chief Rich Cabral.

They returned home to find their home badly damaged on the inside, Cabral said. The couple just renovated the house a year ago and the fire damage is very disheartening for them, he added.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
