A single-vehicle accident caused a fire hydrant to gush water high into the air at the intersection of Clinton Avenue and Clark Street in Fresno.

Around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, the vehicle crashed into the hydrant, causing the vehicle to roll, according to Fresno Fire Department spokesman Pete Martinez. Two people in the car were treated for minor injuries.

Police and the Fresno Fire Department worked with PG&E and the city’s water division to shut off the water, Martinez said. A section of Clinton Avenue between Fresno Street and Blackstone Avenue was blocked off until the water was contained.

At one point water was gushing into powerlines, “and that’s a concern,” Martinez said.
