‘Fill the Bus’ fundraiser to help firefighters battling Rough Fire

Clovis Unified School District will put on a “Fill the Bus” fundraiser this weekend, collecting supplies and donations for firefighters battling fires in the area, including the Rough fire.

Volunteers with the transportation department will be on hand from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the district’s transportation yard, 1490 Herndon Ave. (Herndon and Sunnyside), in Clovis, to receive items. Travel-size pillows, tissue, mouthwash, floss, toothbrushes, toothpaste, baby wipes, foot powder, lip balm, deodorant, sunscreen, handkerchiefs and body wash are some of the suggested donations being sought.

“We want to do what we can to raise morale and to help provide some relief to these hard-working men and women who are fighting the fires in our area,” said Charlie Ott, distrist director of transportation. “Any personal supplies can be donated as anything will help. We really want these firefighters to know how much we appreciate them. They put their lives on the line to protect us, and a great way to thank them is by giving back.”
