Fresno County offers flu vaccine

The Fresno County Department of Public Health has scheduled flu shot clinics for the 2015-16 flu season at multiple locations throughout the county.

The cost of each flu vaccination will be $6. Medi-Cal for children and Medicare Part B will also be accepted.

The 2015-16 flu vaccine is designed to protect against the viruses that are most likely to cause disease this flu season. It’s recommended that each person six months of age and older be vaccinated each year. Vaccination is the best protection against the flu and its potential complications and helps prevent spreading the flu virus.

It takes about two weeks for protection to develop after the vaccination, and protection lasts several months to a year. Children age 8 and younger should receive two shots this season separated by four weeks if this is their first flu shot.

Fresno County residents with insurance coverage should contact doctors about getting flu shots. Vaccines may also be available at physician offices, clinics, pharmacies, and at special flu vaccination events in retail stores.

For dates, times, and locations of the department of public health flu vaccination clinics for Fresno County residents, visit the department’s website or call the immunization information line at 888-993-3003.
