Names released of two killed in Highway 99 wreck
Two people killed in a rear-end collision on Highway 99 near Goshen have been identified as Juan Hernandez Hernandez, 18, of Fresno, and Kathleen Nicole Islas, 39, of Parlier, the Tulare County Coroner’s Office said Wednesday.
Just before 6 a.m. Tuesday, the driver of a big rig heading south on Highway 99 failed to stop or slow for traffic as lanes merged in a construction zone, the CHP said.
The truck hit the rear of a vehicle at about 55 mph, causing a sequence of crashes involving other vehicles, including a box truck, the CHP said.
Hernandez was a passenger in a Toyota Sienna, and Islas was the driver of a Chevrolet Tahoe.
The incident remains under investigation, and charges could be filed against the big rig driver , the CHP said. Drugs or alcohol were not a factor.
