Dog dies, 12 displaced in Visalia house fire

A dog died, another was saved and 12 people were displaced in a Visalia house fire Sunday.

Battalion Chief Doyle Sewell said firefighters responding to a neighborhood north of downtown found fire spreading from one home to another. Residents were out of both homes but two dogs in the home that originally caught fire were reported missing.

One dog was saved and Visalia firefighter/paramedics gave her oxygen. The other dog was found dead in the home.

Firefighters contained the fire in the second home to the exterior and attic. Combined loss in the two homes was estimated at about $180,000. Firefighters helped residents in the original home retrieve some possessions.

The cause was determined to be accidental.
