Firefighters gain ground on fires in Yosemite and Squaw Valley
Two wildfires in Yosemite Valley and Squaw Valley continued to burn Thursday.
The Tenaya fire, which started Monday north of the Yosemite Valley, has burned 455 acres. Firefighters made progress Thursday and gained 25 percent containment, the National Park Service said.
The fire started in the Indian Canyon above the north rim of the Valley. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
Another fire that started Wednesday in Squaw Valley burned 170 acres, Cal Fire reported, and was 50 percent contained Thursday.
The fire started near Sand Creek and Squaw Valley roads, but no structures were damaged, Cal Fire said.
Firefighters learned about the fire after a pedestrian alerted them of flames a few miles away.
