9/11 memorial events in the Valley
Events are planned in the central San Joaquin Valley this week commemorating the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks:
TODAY
Clovis: California Memorial ceremony, 8:30 a.m., Pelco by Schneider Electric, 3500 Pelco Way (just east of Peach Avenue between Dakota and Ashlan avenues), 559-292-1981.
Duncan Polytechnical High School: Air Force Junior ROTC will lead a raising of the flag, singing of the national anthem, and reading of a commemorative message at the flag pole, 7:20-7:40 a.m., 4330 E. Garland Ave.
Fresno: Fresno Vets Center will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Vets can learn about available services at the center.
Madera: Memorial ceremony with former New York firefighter Andy Isolano speaking, 10 a.m., B-K Lighting, 40429 Brickyard Drive, 559-438-5800.
Oakhurst: Patriot Day 9/11 remembrance with Lt. Col. David Hall, California Army National Guard, speaking, 9 a.m., Oakhurst Community Park, 49074 Civic Circle Drive, 559-642-4611.
Tarpey Elementary: Student council members will deliver “Thank You” treats, including baked goods, fruit, and gift cards, to firefighters stationed at Clovis Fire Station 2, 3 p.m., Clovis Fire Station 2, 2300 Minnewawa Ave., Clovis.
