Coarsegold man dies after crash, not wearing seatbelt

A 78-year-old Coarsegold man died after losing control of his vehicle and crashing down an embankment.

Richard Marion Moore was not wearing his seatbelt when he crashed Saturday at 12:20 p.m.

California Highway Patrol reported Moore was driving his white 1995 Suzuki Sidekick west on Road 415, east of Road 416 when he suddenly steered to the left and lost control of the car. The vehicle crossed the eastbound lane and overturned down the dirt embankment.

Moore’s car collided with a barbed wire fence and came to rest on its wheels. Multiple witnesses saw the Suzuki leave the road and stopped to help.

Emergency medical personnel arrived at 12:31 p.m. and determined Moore was dead. It is unknown why he lost control of the car.
