Mariposa driver arrested in crash that killed Merced bicyclist
A Mariposa man was booked on charges of felony hit and run and driving under the influence after a fatal collision with a bicyclist Sunday north of Mariposa, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP said Ruport Wayne Harrison, 72, was northbound on Highway 49 in a Ford F-150 north of French Camp Road when he struck a 63-year-old Merced man and fled the scene. The bicyclist died at the scene.
Harrison was arrested at his home on Bear Valley Road. Neither Harrison nor his passenger, Shannon Shipman, 49, of Mariposa were injured.
