Man dies in Mariposa County crash, starts small wildfire
A man is dead after crashing his car in Mariposa County, igniting a small wildfire on Thursday night, the California Highway Patrol said.
John Pool, 68, of Mariposa, was driving his 1986 Volkswagen Microbus on Harris Road near Highway 49 when his vehicle went off the road and down an embankment, the CHP said. His vehicle overturned onto its roof and caught fire, causing a 3- to 5-acre wildfire.
Mariposa County Fire and Cal Fire responded and put the fire out. Pool died at the scene.
