Fresno police Lt. Marcus Gray II said the crash happened at 3:37 p.m. at the intersection of Belmont and Clovis avenues, while the officer was responding to a weapons disturbance with lights and sirens activated.
According to Gray II, the officer was traveling northbound on Clovis Avenue through the intersection when the patrol vehicle collided with a westbound vehicle on Belmont Avenue.
Both the officer and the other driver were taken to Community Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.
Gray II said the impact caused the patrol vehicle to roll several times before coming to rest upright in the center median. He estimated the vehicle rolled about 40 feet.
The intersection was busy at the time of the crash, Gray II said, and is expected to remain closed for about two hours while the investigation continues.
Officers are canvassing for surveillance video and the department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating.
