Several Fresno Unified students recently received unsubstantiated threats via email, the district announced Wednesday morning.

The matter unfolded Tuesday evening, the district said in a ParentSquare alert, after several students reported getting a threatening email.

Fresno Unified didn’t specify the threats that were made in the email.

The email didn’t name specific students or school sites, and the district says it appeared to be sent from a compromised student email.

After reporting the incident to local authorities, an investigation revealed the hacker was based in England and had sent the email across the state — not solely to Fresno Unified students.

The district said there’s no evidence that the threats are credible.

Law enforcement and the district’s information technology team are continuing to review the incident.
