A former Fresno Unified School District teacher, accused of molesting several of his second-grade students, will be put on trial for his alleged crimes, a Fresno County Superior Court judge ruled.

Aaron Butler, 56, faces up to 150 years in prison if convicted on multiple charges of sexually assaulting four of his former students at Lane Elementary School from August 2014 through June 2017.

Last week, a Fresno County Superior Court judge found there was enough evidence to hold Butler over for trial after hearing testimony from four alleged victims during a preliminary hearing.

Butler is scheduled to return to court on July 21 for an arraignment hearing. A trial date has not been confirmed, said Taylor Long, public information officer for the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office.

During Butler’s preliminary hearing, two of the former students testified that he would call them up to his desk and ask them to sit on his lap. It was during those moments, the students testified, that Butler would sexually assault them.

Butler is charged with 10 counts of committing a lewd or lascivious act to a child under 14 years old. He has pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
