12 Fresno Unified students shaken up in bus crash

Twelve Tenaya Middle School students were shaken up Thursday morning when a car collided with the bus they were riding in near Bullard High School in northwest Fresno, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Just after 8 a.m., the bus was eastbound on Browning Avenue west of Palm Avenue. The car, also eastbound, attempted to make a U-turn and collided with the bus, a CHP spokesman said. The car’s driver, a 47-year-old Fresno man, had moderate injuries, the CHP said.

There were 69 students aboard the bus. The 12 were treated at the scene after complaining of pain.

Four of the students were taken home by parents and the rest went on to Tenaya Middle School, Fresno Unified School District spokeswoman Amy Idsvoog said.

Idsvoog said the bus is equipped with seat belts but she did not know if all the students were wearing them.
