Five people arrested after fight at graduation ceremony in Reedley, police say

A fight broke out a graduation ceremony held in Reedley, resulting in five arrests, police said Wednesday.

The incident happened Tuesday during a graduation ceremony for Kings Canyon Adult School and Mountain View School — alternative schooling options offered through Kings Canyon Unified.

Alisha Gallon, spokesperson for the school district, said the ceremony was held at Reedley High but was not the official high school graduation for the site.

Four people — Adam Velasquez, 19; Jonathan Melena Garcia, 19; Nicholas Perez, 18; and Andrew Velasquez, 20 — were charged with disturbing the peace.

A fifth person, Mariano Melena Garcia, 22, was charged with obstructing a police officer.

Video of the brawl began circulating online. Authorities say they’re reviewing footage and may make additional arrests as the investigation continues.

Despite the disruption, Gallon said the situation was swiftly controlled, allowing the ceremony to continue as planned.
