A motorcycle rider who was the victim of a hit-and-run crash on Memorial Day in Fresno has died.

Fresno County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Tony Botti identified the victim as Richard Cortes, 50, of Fresno. He died in the hospital on Saturday.

According to a GoFundMe fundraiser, Cortes was on his way to visit his granddaughter when the crash occurred. His family says he sustained injuries to his head, neck and back.

The crash happened near Olive and Rowell avenues around 8 p.m. on May 25, Fresno police said.

The suspect, Yzamar Mendez Cortez, is accused of fleeing the scene before returning while officers were investigating. She was charged with felony hit-and-run, as well as driving with a suspended license, before bonding out of jail on May 26.

Taylor Long, spokesperson for the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office, said Mendez Cortez is due in court on June 9.
