Driver slams into tree in Fresno, igniting fire. They fled the scene, police say

A driver fled the scene after crashing their car into a tree, igniting a fire in a Fresno neighborhood Wednesday.

Fresno police Sgt. Diana Trueba Vega said a call of a vehicle versus tree crash came in around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday . The vehicle was reported as being on fire near Bellaire Way and Bond Avenue.

The vehicle, a silver sedan, downed a street sign before crashing into a tree and coming to a stop in the neighborhood near First Street and Ashlan Avenue.

Trueba Vega said the driver fled the scene and ran toward Ashlan.

Officers have not located the driver, Trueba Vega said.
