Traffic stacks up at major Fresno/Clovis intersection after four-vehicle crash
A four-vehicle crash right at the boundary of northeast Fresno and northwest Clovis took out a signal pole and severely impacted traffic in the area Wednesday afternoon.
Ty Wood, spokesperson for the Clovis Police Department, said the crash occurred around 12:45 at Willow and Herndon avenues.
The crash involved three pickup trucks — including one that was hauling a trailer — and one SUV, Wood said.
While traveling west on Herndon, one of the trucks tried to turn right onto Willow, though the driver wasn’t in the right-turn lane. Another truck, hauling the trailer, was heading west on Herndon as well and crashed into the truck that was turning right.
The crash caused the signal pole to go down, which damaged an SUV and a truck.
One adult was taken to the hospital. All drivers remained at the scene, and there was no suspicion of DUI, Wood said.
The crash impacted traffic in the area, and cars were queued up at all the corners of the intersection. Vehicles traveling south on Peach Avenue had turn around at Herndon while police were at the scene, and cars heading west on Herndon were redirected onto Peach.
Wood said crews with the City of Fresno were working to repair the signal pole that was knocked over, and the other lights at the intersection were blinking red in the meantime.
