If you were greeted with some shocking numbers on your last trip to the gas station, you’re not alone. Gas prices are soaring across the nation, and Fresno is hardly immune.

Why are gas prices so high?

As of Wednesday, the average price of regular fuel in Fresno was at about $6.07, not too far below the highest recorded average price of $6.36, according to AAA.

In comparison, the average price of regular fuel was about $5.31 on Thursday, March 12.

The national average price on Wednesday, May 13 is about $4.51.

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran. In retaliation, Iran cut off access to the Strait of Hormuz, through which “a fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas passes,” according to PBS.
