Man killed while walking on Hwy. 41 in Fresno. Driver unable to brake, CHP says

A man was killed early Wednesday after walking directly into the path of traffic on Highway 41 south of Fresno.

According to California Highway Patrol, the man was on the west shoulder of the highway just south of Jensen Avenue around 1 a.m. when he tried to cross the road and was hit by an oncoming vehicle. He was pronounced dead by emergency medical personnel on the scene.

The victim has yet to be identified.

The driver of the car was “unable to brake or take evasive action prior to the collision,” the CHP said.

The driver, 83, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. He was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, CHP said.

CHP said it has not been determined whether the deceased man was under the influence at the time. The crash remains under investigation.
