Downtown Fresno building selling for $2.6 million. It was a bank previously

Another one of downtown Fresno’s more recognizable buildings is for sale.

Located near the heart of downtown Fresno, the old BMO Bank building at the corner of Van Ness Avenue and Fresno Street is listed at an asking price of $2.6 million.

BMO (Bank of Montreal) closed its downtown branch in October 2025 just two years after entering the Fresno market, and the building has since been vacated, according to its listing realtor.

The building, built in 1967, is six stories high and 47,040 square feet — significantly larger than most other neighboring buildings.

It’s often noticeable for its mid-century modern architecture design that features a dramatic, vertical facade in front of large, glass windows.

The property, listed by Cushman & Wakefield’s Tony Cortopassi and Marcus Velasquez, has been marketed as “a compelling opportunity for users or investors seeking a centrally located Fresno asset with near‑term control and upside potential.” The building also can benefit its next occupants with its proximity to downtown Fresno government offices, courts, transit and parking facilities, according to the Cushman & Wakefield listing.

The old banking building is one of 19 commercial properties currently listed for sale in downtown Fresno, according to Loopnet.com.

Last month, the T.W. Patterson building, also one of downtown Fresno’s most visible historic buildings, was listed for sale.
