One woman killed after crashing into downtown Fresno building, police say

One person was killed after a car drove into a building in downtown Fresno on Thursday morning.

Fresno police Sgt. Diana Trueba Vega said the incident occurred around 7:15 a.m. at Ventura Avenue and R Street.

The vehicle was traveling westbound on Ventura when it veered off the road and hit the side of the Factory 41 building, where The Fresno Bee and other businesses operate.

The driver, a 34-year-old woman, died after being taken to the hospital, Trueba Vega said. A 19-year-old passenger was treated for pain.

Police suspect the crash may have been alcohol related. The investigation is ongoing.
