Schools in Fresno, Clovis and Reedley swatted with false threats on same day

At least four high schools in the Fresno area received unsubstantiated threats on Wednesday, leading to shelter-in-place orders and police responses.

Two Fresno Unified sites — Bullard and Fresno high schools — were targeted by bomb threats, according to a ParentSquare announcement from the district.

A.J. Kato, spokesperson for Fresno Unified, said both sites followed safety protocols and issued a lockdown order. Due to its proximity to Bullard, Gibson Elementary went into a voluntary shelter-in-place as well.

Kato said both sites were cleared and that mental health resources would be available for anyone impacted by the lockdowns.

A Clovis Unified high school also was impacted by an unsubstantiated threat Wednesday.

Clovis High School — which was “swatted,” or targeted by phony threats, in October — initiated a shelter-in-place order following a “suspicious call,” Clovis Unified spokesperson Kelly Avants told The Bee.

The Clovis Police Department got a call for service around 1 p.m., spokesperson Ty Wood said, and authorities vacated the campus around 2:30 p.m.

The Reedley Police Department announced via social media that Reedley High School was also the target of a “hoax” that resulted in a 50-minute lockdown Wednesday.
