Five people were killed Sunday in a head-on crash on Highway 41 in Kings County , California Highway Patrol said.

CHP said the Chevrolet’s driver moved into the northbound lane while attempting to pass slower-moving vehicles, for reasons that remain under investigation.

It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor.
