Authorities identify man who was ejected, killed in Madera rollover crash

Authorities have identied the man who was recently killed in a rollover crash in Madera.

A spokesperson for the Madera County Sheriff’s Department identified the man as Steven Muñoz Jr., 48, of Madera.

California Highway Patrol officers responded to reports of a crash near Daley Road and Avenue 17 on Monday evening.

Muñoz was driving a GMC Yukon when he lost control and veered off the road, authorities say. He wound up overturning his vehicle, which came to a rest on the front lawn of a home.

Muñoz was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from his car. He died at the scene.

Immediately before the fatal crash, authorities said Muñoz hit a Ford Taurus at Daley Road and Avenue 17. The driver of the Taurus left the scene, though officers say they later made contact and found him unharmed.

Officers believe drug or alcohol impairment may have been a factor. The crash is still under investigation.
