Walgreens becomes latest national chain to leave northeast Fresno shopping area
A northeast Fresno shopping center in the Hoover High area will soon lose another major national chain.
The Walgreens at the southeast corner of Bullard Avenue and First Street is set to close permanently April 28.
While specific reasons for this pharmacy’s closure were not immediately known, Walgreens had announced in 2024 that it intended to close 1,200 stores that were struggling amid the company’s struggles $3 billion in losses.
Walgreens isn’t the first national chain to shut down at Bullard and First.
The KFC located essentially next door, just a few feet south of Walgreens closed in November 2025. It is now all boarded up and the KFC sign that once was displayed on the outside can only be faintly seen.
Baskin-Robbins ice cream is the lone remaining national chain in that shopping center, which is located just north and to the west of the Hoover campus.
This Walgreens will become the second Walgreens in Fresno to close this year, following the closure of the location at Herndon and West avenues.
