Fresno police burglarized; auto-theft unit targeted

A police building that houses specialized units in east-central Fresno was burglarized Saturday, police said.

Based on the items taken, this does not appear to be a random burglary and the office of the career criminal auto theft team was targeted, police Chief Jerry Dyer said.

The burglary happened around 1 a.m. after someone entered the building by removing a window, Dyer said.

Police responded after getting a burglar alarm notification at the building, which also houses the major narcotics unit and vice intelligence unit.

“We have collected evidence at the scene that is being processed, and we continue to search for possible videos or witnesses to this incident,” Dyer said.

Dyer declined to comment on the motive behind the burglary until further investigation occurs.
