4 victims, including 3 teens, killed in crash fleeing from Madera deputies ID’d

Authorities have named the four people — including three teenagers — who died in a crash while fleeing from deputies early Sunday in Madera County.

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified the driver killed as Juan Perez Quezada, 25. The other three victims were Benito Mendoza, 15; David Daza Perez, 15; and Stephen Rodriguez, 13.

A spokesperson said the victims’ relations to one another, as well as their cities of residence, were unclear as of Tuesday. A Madera Unified spokesperson confirmed some of the identified minors were students at the district.

Another passenger, 18, was hospitalized with critical injuries, authorities said.

The fatal crash happened early Sunday after the five people fled from deputies responding to reports of vehicle break-ins near El Vado Drive and Avenue 18 1/2 around 1:15 a.m.

Quezada was driving at a high rate of speed, authorities said Sunday, and lost control near Highway 99 and Avenue 17. All four victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
