Strong winds from a thunderstorm ripped off a roof at a Fresno County fire station Monday afternoon.
According to Fresno County Battalion Chief Matt Mosely, a caller reported at 3:30 p.m. that a section of the station’s roof had been blown off and landed in a roadway in Tranquillity.
No crews were inside the fire station at the time; they were in Mendota covering another station, Mosely said.
The station’s garage also sustained damage.
“It’s probably going to be a little bit of time until the roof itself gets fixed,” Mosely said. “In terms of our service, it’s not going to affect our response times. Our crew will still be able to fully serve the community.”
The National Weather Service in Hanford reported a rotation at the time of the thunderstorm, but it is unclear if a funnel struck the roof.
