Fire ravages Fresno tile shop. Authorities are investigating suspected arson

A fire has torn through another central Fresno business, and authorities investigating the incident believe the fire was intentionally set.

Fresno Fire Department spokesperson Joshua Sellers said the fire occurred around 4:15 a.m. Friday at A&T Ceramic near McKinley and Blackstone avenues.

Sellers said the building sustained minimal damage and the fire was “contained to contents still inside the building.” Fifty firefighters responded to the blaze, Sellers said.

Authorities believe the fire was set intentionally and are investigating.

Two days before the fire at A&T Ceramic, owners Art and Tony Terzian spoke with ABC30 and expressed fears that their business could face the same fiery fate that befell other nearby sites.

“I’m thinking I’m going to be next,” Art told the outlet, while Tony cited how devastating a fire would be.

About two weeks prior, the abandoned Carl’s Jr. located at McKinley and Blackstone was destroyed in a blaze, and a vacant building at the same intersection was up in flames this past Sunday. Authorities swiftly labeled the latter blaze as “highly suspicious.”

The city is pursuing control of the area through eminent domain in court in an effort to lower the intersection by up to 25 feet to run beneath the railroad tracks. Eminent domain is a legal process where a government agency seeks to acquire private property for public use.
