A 3-year-old is in the hospital Thursday after a construction truck struck the toddler in Fresno.

The collision happened just before 3 p.m. at Plumas and Stanislaus streets near Fresno Chandler Executive Airport.

Police said it happened in the backyard of a home, where a worker was backing up and repositioning a truck.

The driver did not know that the child was outside . He remained on scene and cooperated with officers.

The child, who was taken to Community Regional Medical Center with head injuries and a broken arm, was in stable condition.
