Secretary of state to speak at Fresno naturalization ceremony
Secretary of State Alex Padilla will speak at a citizenship and naturalization ceremony Tuesday in Fresno.
Roughly 900 new citizens are expected to take the oath of allegiance at the 10 a.m. ceremony at the Fresno Convention Center.
Padilla's parents emigrated from Mexico and raised their family in the working class community of Pacoima. He later earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and served eight years as a California state senator before being sworn in as secretary of state in January.
