A pedestrian was killed Sunday night when he was struck by a vehicle at a busy Fresno intersection.

Officers responded to the crash at 6 p.m. at Bullard Avenue and First Street.

According to Fresno Police Lt. Henry Garcia III, the vehicle was traveling west on Bullard, passing through the intersection of First Street, when it struck the pedestrian just west of the site.

Officers and EMS provided first aid to the pedestrian, who was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was identified Monday as 48-year-old James Harvey of Fresno.

The driver remained on scene.

“We are evaluating them to see if there’s any intoxicants or if they’re under the influence of any alcohol,” Garcia said.

“Right now, we do not believe any of that is a factor.”

Officers are investigating the fatal crash and locating any witnesses and surveillance cameras to see what happened.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police at 559-621-7000.
