Man killed in two-vehicle crash at intersection west of Fresno identified
A 30-year-old man was killed in a two-vehicle crash at an intersection west of Fresno on Monday.
He was identified Wednesday by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office as as Cesar Ochoa of Kerman.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Ochoa was driving his truck south on Butte Avenue near Kerman around 8 p.m. Monday when he failed to stop for a posted sign and stuck a car traveling west through the American Avenue intersection, which is uncontrolled in that direction.
The impact sent the car into a dirt field, where it flipped at least once.
Ochoa’s truck also went off the road and into a field and struck a power pole guide wire before coming to a stop, the CHP said.
Ochoa was able to get out of the truck but then collapsed. He was taken by helicopter to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, where he later died, CHP said.
The driver of the other car was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts, according to the CHP.
It is unclear why Ochoa failed to stop, but alcohol and drugs do not appear to be involved in the crash, CHP said. The investigation was ongoing.
