Update: Max Fire in Fresno County burns 300 acres, containment at 5%

UPDATE: Fire officials say the Max Fire burned 300 acres with 5% containment as of Monday morning after the blaze broke out at 1:11 p.m. Sunday.

ORIGINAL: A fast-moving wildfire in Fresno County has burned at least 282 acres Sunday afternoon.

The location of the fire was first discovered in the southeast of Barnes Mountain at Big Creek Road and Vomac Road, Pine Flat Lake as United States Forest Service and other crews are battling the fire. The fire named, Max Fire, flared up at 1:11 p.m.

According to Watch Duty, an app that alerts of wildfires, “crews are experiencing a high resistance to efforts to control the fire on both divisions, per incident command.”

The fire is moving toward Nutmeg Creek and the 10S02 Road, according to Watch Duty.

The cause of the fire is unknown and there has been no containment.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said evacuation orders have been issued to people in the immediate area, which is zone K61.

The California Highway Patrol is shutting down roads at Dinkey Creek at 10S18. Trimmer Springs at Big Creek is also closed.
