Multiple fires along Fresno highway prompt emergency response. Traffic backed up

The Fresno Fire Department battled multiple highway fires Wednesday afternoon along Highway 41.

The five grass fires were along southbound 41 between Shaw and Ashlan avenues.

Fresno Fire spokesperson Josh Sellers said around 1:45 p.m. that crews had extinguished the blazes, though they will remain on scene to make sure no hot spots flare up.

The fires started around 12:15 p.m.

Traffic was heavily impacted along the highway during the noon hour. The California Highway Patrol reduced traffic to one lane on southbound 41, while northbound 41 was impacted, too.

Crews had to shuttle back and forth to get to water as officers from the Fresno Police Department shut down Gettysburg Avenue and Clark Street.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.

CHP said fires were also reported along Highway 180 near Peach Avenue; on 180 near Temperance; and Highway 99 at Jensen Avenue.

A grass fire at highway 99 near Jensen Avenue started Wednesday, May 14, 2025 in Fresno, California.
