Passenger dies when Fresno driver dodges deer

A 57-year-old Fresno man was killed early Sunday when the driver of a car he was riding in drove off the roadway trying to avoid a deer near Pine Flat Dam, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The crash took place about 12:30 a.m. George Vang, 51, of Fresno, was westbound on Trimmer Springs Road east of Lakeview Avenue in a 2000 Toyota. The CHP said Vang turned to avoid the deer, drove down a dirt embankment and crashed.

George Vang was not injured. Moua Xiong, 31, of Fresno, sustained minor injuries.

The Fresno County coroner did not immediately identify the victim.
