Walmart is remodeling 3 Fresno-area locations. What’s in store for upgrades?
Three Walmart stores in the Fresno area will undergo remodels in the next year, the popular retailer announced recently, bringing new jobs and new perks for shoppers.
Walmart plans to upgrade a total of 650 locations across the United States and Puerto Rico as part of its “Store of the Future” initiative, first announced in 2024.
Walmart also aims to build or convert more than 150 stores over the next five years, according to a January 2024 release.
The projects will create “tens of thousands of jobs,” John Furner, president and CEO of Walmart U.S., said in the release. “Those jobs come with amazing perks, like tuition-free college starting on day one, or flexible scheduling and competitive paid time off.”
In addition, Walmart-owned Sam’s Club is planning to remodel all existing locations — about 600 stores in total — and open 30 new spots.
However, Sam’s Club hasn’t announced when Fresno-area stores could see renovations.
Here’s what you need to know about Walmart’s plans:
Which local Walmart stores are getting remodels?
A total of three Fresno-area Walmart stores will undergo renovations, according to media outlets including Sacramento television station KXTV and The Salinas Californian.
Here’s where to find them:
- 1805 East Ashlan Ave. in Fresno
- 323 West Shaw Ave. in Clovis
- 14061 West Whitesbridge Ave. in Kerman
Walmart is also planning upgrades at six stores in the Sacramento region.
What upgrades are coming to Fresno-area locations?
Walmart said its Store of the Future concept features “improved layouts, expanded product selections and innovative technology to help our associates better support our customers and make shopping more convenient and enjoyable.”
That includes “new and bolder signage, new displays, expanded department and expanded online pickup and delivery areas,” KXTV reported, as well as wider aisles and private screening rooms in Walmart pharmacies.
Walmart said it’s also focusing on sustainability with more energy-efficient equipment and lighting and lower-impact refrigerants.
In addition, the retailer is developing a “coast-to-coast network of affordable electric vehicle fast-charging stations to provide a more convenient and accessible choice for Walmart shoppers and associates,” the release said.
When will renovations be complete?
As of Monday, no final date had been set for the completion of upgrades to Fresno-area Walmart stores.
“We’re proud that improving our stores also has a tangible impact in the communities we serve,” Furner said in the release. “What a win it is to invest in America, grow our business and move toward a more sustainable future – all at the same time.”
