New deli in downtown Fresno offering thick sandwiches, discounts for neighbors
A new deli that offers a variety of high quality sandwiches and drinks has opened in downtown Fresno, and it’s offering a discount for many who live and work in the area.
The Expressry Deli & Market at 1925 E. Divisadero St. debuted earlier this month and serves sandwiches that use Boar’s head brand meats and provides a nice meat to cheese to bread ratio.
It’s all fresh and made to order, as are the salads.
And with the deli about 300 feet from Fresno Community Regional Medical Center, owner AK Moshin decided to offer a 10% discount for hospital staff.
But those aren’t the only ones getting a discount.
Mohsin, who is popularly known on the social media app TikTok for producing videos that show people helping others in Fresno and beyond, has extended the discount to first responders, City of Fresno workers, along with senior citizens, veterans and nearby neighbors.
Signature sandwiches, which includes a Reuben that’s made with pastrami, melted gold label Swiss cheese and mustard, costs $12.99.
In addition, the Expressry carries a number of craft sodas and snacks.
“We just wanted to bring a quality and fresh product to this area,” Mohsin said. “It’s a fresh feel.”
The new deli occupies what had been a vacant but somewhat prominent building in downtown Fresno.
On a side of the building is a popular mural that honors front-line medical professions. A nurse is painted at the center while the faces of other superheroes flanking the sides.
Other downtown openings, closings
Mystic Music, a musical instrument sales and repair store, is closing its retail location at 1822 Van Ness Avenue. The company will continue to do expert repairs and set up by appointment.
Plant Envy, which offers a variety of plants in particular to decorate the inside of homes, started selling inside the piercing store Blood & Beauty earlier this month.
The plant store and piercing place are both located at 616 Broadway St.
Maarte, a multi-purpose space located in the same building as Warnors Theater, is nearing two months of being open.
Maarte, which in the Filipino language Tagalog means dramatic or as younger folks today might refer to as “extra,” operates as a yoga studio, gift shop and events place that allows people to “explore, create and just be,” according to owner Christine Rose.
“This is so much more than a studio; it’s a space for creatives to dream, for the community to gather and for everyone to explore and develop their artistry — together,” Rose wrote on a Maarte social media post.
The Isla Tea Lounge, located inside the Sun Stereo Warehouse at 736 Fulton Street, started holding recurring events in April.
The purpose of the recurring events is to establish a “third place,” where community members can socialize in consistent place that’s outside of their home or work while finding a sense of belonging.
The Isla Tea Louge’s recurring events take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays at 5 p.m.
The popular tea lounge has been open since December.
