Update: 74-year-old woman using walker killed by vehicle in Fresno is ID’d by coroner

Pedestrian fatality

A 74-year-old woman was struck and killed by a vehicle Saturday morning in Fresno.

The collision happened at 5:30 a.m. on Clinton Avenue, east of Bond Street involving a Toyota Avalon.

CHP spokesperson Mike Salas said the Toyota was westbound on Clinton when she struck the woman who was using a walker in the westbound lanes. The woman was pronounced dead. She was identified by the coroner as Maria Paredes.

The driver of the Toyota immediately stopped at the scene, called 911, and cooperated fully with authorities during the investigation.

Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected in the collision.

Salas said the area is “extremely dark due to a lack of streetlights, as it is located in a county pocket.”
