Truck dumps manure load near Coalinga

One person suffered major injuries Monday when a tractor-trailer hauling manure overturned west of Coalinga, the California Highway Patrol said.

The truck overturned about 2 p.m. leaving its 24-ton load along Phelps Avenue, just west of Calaveras Avenue, west of Coalinga, according to CHP reports.

The driver was pinned inside the truck. He was removed and taken to Community Regional Medical Center by helicopter with major injuries, Capt. Ryan Michaels with the Fresno County Fire Protection District said. His condition and identity were not immediately available.

Michaels said the crash left a mess.

“There is manure everywhere,” Michaels said. “It’s going to be some time before they can get that cleaned up... an extended amount of time.”

But much of the manure spilled on the road’s shoulder, said Bob Palacios, Fresno County roads manager.

“Once the truck is out of the way it shouldn’t take very long,” he said.
