Toddler nearly drowns in east-central Fresno

A toddler nearly drowned Sunday in east-central Fresno, said Fresno fire spokesman Pete Martinez.

Firefighters were called to The Landing at Fancher Creek Apartments on North Peach Avenue, north of Highway 180, at 3:30 p.m. By the time they arrived, the child, age 2 or 3, was already in the back of an ambulance.

Martinez said the child coughed up water but was breathing. When they arrived at the emergency room, the child was crying, which Martinez said is a good sign.

Martinez didn’t know the circumstances surrounding the child’s near drowning. But Fancher Creek advertises several lakes, three swimming pools and two spas at the apartment complex.

No other details were immediately available.
