Fire crews from Fresno receive praise from actor for saving block of homes in Palisades Fire
Many firefighters from throughout California are battling the wildfires causing havoc in Southern California.
One of the fire crews assigned to the Palisades Fire is the Fresno Fire Department (OES 5113 - The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services).
Crews worked hard to save some of the homes and that brought out praise by actor Dennis Quaid while on Primetime on the Fox News Network.
Before taking questions, he gave a shout-out to crews from Fresno.
“Before we get started, I would like to thank Anthony Marmolejo, James Contreras, Mike Zimmerman and John Kluwer from OES 5113 from Fresno who came down here to help out with this fire,” he said on air.
“I can’t say enough about the firefighters who’ve been here. They’ve really made a difference. They’re the guys that are running in, when everybody else is running out. They made a difference right here in my block.”
Quaid said the fire was at least 150 yards away from “taking away the whole block.”
Quaid added that this is the worst fire he’s seen in the 45 years he’s been living in Southern California. “It came up so suddenly.”
Fresno Fire spokesperson Josh Sellers said 18 fire crews are assigned to the first with three engines, three Battalion Chiefs and three overhead assignments that are safety officers or other leadership positions.
“That was an awesome shout-out,” Sellers said. “I wasn’t expecting any of that. I don’t know if anybody knew that he was going to do that.”
