Fight between state parole officer and parolee leads to fatal shooting, police say

Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting Tuesday when a state parole officer allegedly shot and killed a parolee at a Fresno home.

Police said the shooting took place at 12:30 p.m. when the department’s electronic ShotSpotter picked up three rounds in the 1200 block Cortland Avenue.

Officers arrived and found the injured parole officer and a man in his 30s that had a gunshot wound.

Life-saving measures were given to the parolee but he died at the scene, police said. The parole officer was injured but is expected to be OK.

Police said the parole officer was doing a check at the home when a fight took place. The parole officer was interviewed by police

Police said the parole officer has 13 years of experience with the parole office.

Police were on the scene for several hours investigating the officer-involved shooting.
