Man dies in rollover crash into shallow canal west of Fresno
An 18-year-old Kerman man died Saturday morning after he rolled his car into a shallow canal in western Fresno County, the California Highway Patrol said.
The CHP received a 911 call around 8:30 a.m. saying that a gray Toyota had flipped into the water on West North Avenue just west of South Jameson Avenue.
For unknown reasons, the Toyota ran off the south road edge and collided with a raised dirt embankment, the CHP said.
The Toyota then overturned into a water canal before coming to rest on its roof.
Officers found the man’s car upside down and submerged in about 1 foot of water. He died at the scene. His name was not released pending notification of his family.
The driver was the only person in the car and he was not wearing a seatbelt when he was thrown out of the car, the CHP said.
It’s not known if alcohol was a factor, but no other cars were involved in the accident, the CHP said.
